Meet John Q. Smith, Candidate for the 67th District

John Q. Smith was raised in a working-class family in Ohio. Following military service that included a deployment to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict, he earned a Ph.D. in history from Ohio State through the GI Bill. He continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a historian with assignments in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. and deployments to Southwest Asia. After retiring from his role as Air Force Senior Historian, he and his wife, Grace, moved to King George County where Grace works as a special education teacher at King George Elementary School. Both John and his wife are strong supporters of public education.
John’s background and experience has provided him with a perspective that he believes can help the people of the 67th HD district. He believes in service, public education, and veteran advocacy. John will support the creation of a strong local economy for everyone. His career and life experiences have emphasized the importance of being a listener, and he intends to listen to the people of this district and hopes to represent us effectively in Richmond.

Meet Jolicia Ward, Candidate for the 25th District

Jolicia Ward is an activist, former full-time healthcare professional, and parent. She has worked for the Department of Defense (U.S. Army) to provide medical care for active-duty service members. As an experienced healthcare worker, she has seen first-hand the struggles of Virginians to access affordable and high-quality health care. That's why she entered the fight for the 25th Senate District — to fight for all Virginians in need of accessible, affordable medical care.
Jolicia also knows how urgently broadband internet is needed in our district. Broadband would enable the residents of the rural Northern Neck to more easily access telehealth services and perform the everyday tasks that often require robust internet, such as banking, school, and staying in touch with friends and family.
An active member of the King George community, Jolicia serves on the board of The Ralphe Bunche Arts and Humanity Center and is a member of the KG NAACP and King George Democratic Committee. If elected, she will work to expand internet and healthcare access across the rural Northern Neck; expedite the Norris bridge replacement project; and uphold the rights of women to choose.
