Lawmakers approved $300,000 to support maintenance at Caledon State Park and $3.5 million for wastewater infrastructure improvements through the King George County Service Authority. After several months of negotiations and delays, Virginia lawmakers have approved a two-year state budget, bringing an end to an extended budget impasse between the House of Delegates, the Senate, and Governor Abigail Spanberger. The budget funds the state government for Fiscal Years 2027 and 2028 and includes a broad range of investments in education, healthcare, transportation, public safety, environmental protection, and local infrastructure. The budget reflects a negotiated agreement between legislative leaders and the Governor's Office after disagreements over several major issues, including data center taxation, transportation funding, and spending priorities. Legislative negotiators described the final agreement as a compromise that preserves Virginia's fiscal stability while making new investments in affordability, public services, and economic development.

The budget also includes new revenue generated through taxes on data center energy consumption while maintaining the Commonwealth's existing sales tax exemption for qualifying data centers. With passage of the budget, Virginia agencies can now begin implementing the appropriations and policy changes authorized for the next two fiscal years.
